Absolutely love this fragrance, it’s completely different from anything you can find in the high street, and it’s completely worth the price.

It’s one of those fragrances that give you lot of personality.

I have worn no 88 for years. It’s stays with you all day and I get loads of compliments. It’s a beautiful and distinctive fragrance. Fantastic

No. 88 has been a favorite of mine for the past 10 years, and somehow it still doesn’t feel dated. At times it reminds me of Nag Champa incense, other times it makes me think of a luxurious rose-scented soap you’d find in a barber shop. It’s one of those fragrances that are uplifting but also somehow just a touch melancholy. Perhaps that’s why it’s so charming.

I use the No. 88 for 30 years, and as your description says: It is a really english scent ! Used in the right manner it`s not intrusive but makes it your own very personal scent. And that`s what makes women go berserk, I presume

I’ve been head over heals with this fantastically unique and breathtakingly gorgeous fragrance for about 25 years now. Absolute elegance and quality in stunner. Longevity is second to none and sillage is exactly how I like it: very present and available for all too enjoy without knocking them backward. Having said that, I use relatively sparingly as it can become overly loud if used liberally. The fragrance is predominantly floral but in a refined masculine way and never pretty or feminine. The rose dominates here but geranium has a definite supporting role that blends beautifully with the rose. The wood notes are sandalwood and vetiver and again, blended with perfection. The Bergamot is very present initially and then fades into the background with cameo appearances every now and then, while frangipani is definitely there but in an ever so subtle way. No.88 is an all-time favourite of mine and forever will be.

When my husband wears this, I can’t resist repeatedly sniffing his neck – it’s addictive!

My favorite smell of all time. I can remember the first time out smelt it outside one of the Czech and Speake shops and I was hooked. I also love the fragrance sticks can make anywhere feel like home to me.

I first wore this back in 1989 when I received it as a gift for my birthday. I felt very special wearing this cologne with its expensive rich tones of fragrance. I like the way the Geranium adds a dark green lush note to the woody scents of Vetiver and Cassie. The romantic scents of Frangipani and Rose make it a sensual cologne but most of all I like the way I feel I am indulging in something special when I wear it, adding a luxurious ambience to my skin. I think it is the perfect fragrance for special occasions when you are dressed up for a special night out it adds the final flourish that makes me feel fully dressed

One of my favourite fragrances ever. Reminds me of 90s goths in Camden, who seemed to drench themselves in it when I was a teenager. Although I wasn’t conscious of it at the time, the very distinctive smell burned its way into my memory bank. When I sampled the fragrance for myself for the first time many years later, it naturally brought me back to those years, and I instantly knew I had to have a bottle. Superb!

  10. 5 out of 5

I first sampled No.88 in its gel form back in the 1980’s. I considered it a smell made in heaven and nearly 25 years later I still consider this to be by first choice every time. In that time I have used the No.88 After Shave and soap and my only regret is that they stopped producing the after-shave gel. Christmas for me is a bottle of the Cologne Spray here, and quite frankly if Santa brings me this, that’ll do for me.
How do you describe a smell? I won’t go all top notes, base notes etc. so I’ll keep it simple and say that if after nearly 25 years of this being my unquestionable favourite, it’s wonderful and I would recommend to anyone.

No88 is the best cologne in the world….ever. Don’t believe me? Whatever. You will regret every passing moment of the rest of your life thinking “what if I would have just listened to that wise man?” Try it, and know I was right all along.

This is the most provocative scent in the world. I first smelt it about 30 years ago and to this day still reminds me of exciting nights out, parties, new ventures
and romance. It will always hold the best memories in the world and I buy it for men that are special;that when they wear it I want to be reminded me of those times again.

It took me a long while to find MY fragrance, trying many French and Italian fragrance houses over the years – then I found No.88. It is by far the best fragrance that I have ever owned and used. It makes you feel like a RockStar!!!

  17. 5 out of 5

No.88 is simple, fresh and yet makes every wear seem an occasion. There is no over designed bottle or adornment. Black and white. Simple and classic

Sultry, seductive, with a devilish air. This is the sort of cologne you wear to make a statement, without screaming outlandishly like a teenager in a nightclub. Cary Crant would wear this cologne, but he’d be playing the bad guy.
What I really like about this fragrance is the balance it strikes. I enjoy the heavier scents available for men, the designer classics that have been around for years but I find very few have a delicate touch. With the bergamot opening and the main heady rose note this is something which projects boldly but not forcefully, I would not be concerned with overpowering any potential suitors with a fierce cloud of cologne as pursue my wooing, it has staying power without getting to the point where you wake up the following morning and feel compelled to reach for the scouring pad to scrub it off.
The staying power lends to it being good value as well, as I have found only a couple of sprays enough to last me through the evening whereas many designer offerings promise much but fail after a few hours to stay the course.
My nose picks up the bergamot and rose straight away and this stays like this for the main, bergamot being swapped out for sandalwood in the middle and the sweetness of frangipani peeking its nose into view after a few hours of wear-time.
The bottle design again makes me think of old Hollywood. It doesn’t need to shout, no need for a pushy agent and a big-money marketing campaign here, just discreet black, simple and elegant writing and a solidly built sprayer which does its job impeccably.
I would recommend this to anyone, including ladies out there looking for something different. I’m of the belief that if you enjoy a fragrance and wear it with confidence and pride then there are no need for recommended age ranges or even genders. If you are young you may get a few questions asked as to why you haven’t gone with a ubiquitous designer offering, but hopefully after it has been sampled it will win people over as it has I.

No.88 is prefect to wake me up in the morning, and not only one time have stranger asked me what fragrance I was using .
I love the combination of bergamots and vetiver, it green, fresh and transparent but still can stay longer.

No. 88 has been my signature fragrance for years. It’s such an elegant fragrance unlike anything else I’ve come across. I will continue to buy this incredible fragrance as long as C&S continue to sell it.

I have sampled and owned a few of the fragrances from Czech and Speake over the years and No. 88 is by far my favorite. The scent is fantastic overall with the top note of bergamot being my favorite and the vetiver and sandle wood dry down being addictive. It smells like class, elegance, and money. I wear it to very important business meetings and always receive compliments on it.

    Its UNIQUE…its ME !

i like rose notes but it is quite a challenge for perfume brands to offer truly convincing masculine rose. not surprisingly, many have tried and most have miserably failed…this is exactly what makes 88 so special because it did something decades ago that many still have not been able to do..it offered a masculine rose that even haters of masculine florals cannot resist and i know this not from personal experience but also from others’ experiences..if you want a masculine rose that you can safely pull off in any occasion, look no further than 88

No.88 – It’s not just worldly and very competent, It’s characterful, rounded and flamboyant too. The fragrance is built up from natural smelling things: wood, incense, vetiver, geranium, bergamot and sings the song of ages with them. Yet it seems clarified though a youthful modern sensibility which tells us to select carefully what we keep from the past.
No.88 is the baby that remains when the bathwater has been thrown.

    Strangeness and Charm

Could you say that a fragrance is witty? The bergamot and rose accord one gets as the curtain goes up on No. 88 Cologne is so distinctive, and yet, the first time I smelled it, it struck me as a riddle. Is that a flower? A fruit? The two scents lock together so seamlessly that it forms a kind of seductive mystery, the olfactory equivalent of keen, delightful British wit.

Brightened by greenish geranium notes and frangipani, No. 88 warms and mellows on the skin, ultimately revealing a foundation of sandalwood and crisp vetiver. At once exotic and familiar, No. 88 Cologne telegraphs allure and seductive charm.

  31. 5 out of 5

I love this fragrance. Very Victorian, very British. It’s a classic scent–a perfect combination of rose and sandalwood with a twist. It starts in a very sultry manner, with a slight dirty edge. Then there’s Indian incense mix and the dry down with vetiver and sandalwood. By that stage it becomes clean and conservative. It lasts a long time on me and I find it suitable for all occasions. Whether partying or conservative, it works for me.

No. 88 was my introduction to the world of grown-up fragrance. At the tender age of 19, and on a daytrip to London, I fell in love with this sumptuous and stunning scent.

High Street ‘horrors’ with their gaudy packaging, and barely concealed promises of non-stop sexual gratification, were consigned to the bin or passed to less discerning friends and family members!

No. 88 is a fragrance that manages to be intense, uncompromising and yet somehow elusive. The top notes of bergamot and geranium are clear and sparkling as crystal and refreshing as rain on a sultry, summer evening.
The mid notes of rose otto, cassie and exotic frangipani add richness without ever becoming cloying. Vetiver and sandalwood base notes bestow a drydown that is subtle, complex and inviting.

I have, over the years, flirted with many fragrances; from fashion house ‘greats’ to shaving shop specialties. Ultimately though, I return to my first love – Czech & Speake No. 88.

What a great scent! It is a terrific balance between big names from both sides of the aisle of our contemporary gender-linked scent associations. Suitable for so many occasions. No wonder it’s so popular!

Been wearing No88 cologne for about 30 years since I was about 18. No -one else wears it, lasts forever on me and it is known as my smell. Smells so much better than all the usual designer scents.

  36. 5 out of 5

Back when I discovered this cologne, I was unable to afford it. A close friend of mine wore 88 exclusively and he introduced me to it by suprising me with a small bottle one Christmas well over 10 years ago now, and I’ve cheerily put it on only for special occasions since then. I wore it on my wedding day when I married my “forever love” and I wore it when my wife and I brought my son home from the hospital to meet my family.

I don’t know how to describe this fragrance. I think that what Czech and Speake have captured with this long ranging product is something that can’t be duplicated in the impersonal mass production factories of the perfumery giants. They’ve seemingly captured what it means to be a small old world artisan in this growingly impersonal world.

I would imagine that this fragrance speaks volumes to all of us, in our own personal way. I mean, you can speak all day about its bergamot and sandalwood scents – to me that means little. To me it’s the scent evokes a memory of a special gift from an old friend. It’s my wedding day. It’s my son coming home from the hospital. It’s a personal fragrance for a personal occasion. It’s a delicately crafted personal fragrance that I use for those delicately crafted personal moments.

I discovered it many years ago in one Croatian niche perfumery while searching for my “signature” scent. My search started quite unsuccessful. So many macho scents that were totally not me and on the other side there were perfumes that smelled like I stole them from my sister.

Until lady that was working there in one moment pulled one black bottle and quite confidently said: “This one describes you in the best way”. And oh she was right…

Proper masculine perfume, clean, conservative, but still unique…absolute classic. Well done, Czech & Speake and thanks 🙂

Oh my!! What a truly wonderful cologne. It exudes sophistication and yet majestical at the same time. Quintessentially English and classic. It near as hugs you. I have been searching for that one scent that is unique, and me, for 20 years. It has superb and longevity and sillage. A scent for the discerning man where one likes to pay as much attention to his fragrance as he does in his attire, without overstating. The two go hand in hand. There really is nothing quite like it, and as other reviewers have noted, the best scent in the world, and i am so pleased that I know of it and now have it. I feel like a member of a private club of persons that have discovered this warming, comfortable, sophisticated fragrance, from which you will always stand out from the crowd of the mainstream. I knew of Czech & Speake bathroom furniture from a long time ago (my sister once worked in their east London factory) however I was never made aware of the fragrances.. Shame on her. Thank you Czech & Speake, you have made me one very happy person, now that I have discovered the fragrance that I have always known was out there somewhere that would be mine, special and unique. I don’t want to tell anyone what it is, I want them to be reminded of me as the man with that scent. Next pay check will be to purchase the soap, and continue my new relationship with this forever.

A luscious and deeply enveloping aroma. Perhaps not one to wear all day every day, but for that special occasion with the right person just perfect.
